Personal development, at its root, is anything that allows us to grow into a life that is completely of our own choosing. To live a life that not only meets our needs but also is full of our desires and joyful moments is one of the most cherished of goals among self improvement practitioners and everyday people. There are some excellent methods and many many tools available to you right now for helping you achieve this dream. However, it is easier said than done with the self sabotaging thoughts and habits that come along with being human. Here are a few hints and tips to get you started on your personal development journey.
Clean the clutter from your life
There is an excellent saying in the personal development field, “a tidy desk is a tidy mind”. Oftentimes, your outer environment is a reflection of the way you think and feel, it’s part of our extended energy field and when we spend a lot of time in certain environments that energy begins to alter our own energy field. Is your living or working space always messy or cluttered? It’s important that you start to create order in your environment to reflect the ordered life you are building. Clear away unnecessary clutter from your surroundings. This may sound like a meaningless task but you are sending a very clear message to your subconscious mind that you intend to get organised and create space for all that you wish to manifest. When you begin to organise your living and working environment it allows you to develop the basic skills needed for organising your life in general. This can be achieved through goals, plans and any form of schedule or map. You should structure your goals in such a way that each one builds on the other and ensure that they are not in opposition to one another, or taking energy from each other. Everything in your life can be made into clean and structured experiences that work in your favour.
Don’t be too set on achieving your goals in exactly the manner you intend to
A major factor in the non-attainment of goals is the inability to restructure plans and change direction when circumstances dictate the need to do so. Remain flexible and open to the idea that the plan and step-by-step process you may have had in your mind about how to reach your goal may come tumbling down, or an obstacle or challenge may prevent itself requiring a change of direction. The steps may change along the way or the goals themselves may change along the way. It’s all fine. By remaining open to going with the flow your personal development journey becomes more enjoyable and less ‘it’s all over‘ should one thing not go to plan. By not always knowing what has to come next life is exciting and you’ll be more eager to find out.
Don’t focus on the mistakes
Mistakes come to teach us lessons, simply analyse them and learn whatever they are trying to teach you and then move on. By staying focused on your failures, problems or challenges you are actually creating more of them and drawing them into your energy bubble with the low vibration. Shift to focusing on the solutions instead or at least focus on the fact that you are still alive and there is always another way forward. Consider any mistakes you’ve made as life lessons and strength building tools. Apply what you have learned from them and use them as references (of what not to do) in the future.
Make sure you follow through on your plans
Persistence can accomplish things that nothing else can. How many times were you close to the end of the rainbow, and without even knowing how close you were, you quit? You may be someone who has drive at the start of a venture but finds your enthusiasm waning as you progress, lacking the motivation that is needed to “keep you keeping on” during times of hardship. Those who persist, especially in times like these, are those who ALWAYS win! Don’t pressurise yourself to have to take a certain action at a certain time everyday regardless of how you feel in the moment. Give yourself the freedom to work on your personal development in a consistent manner and as long as you keep showing up on your terms progress will be made. Never force yourself to take action or you will come at it with the wrong energy.
Personal development is a personal journey. Don’t waste your time comparing yourself to others or attempting to stick to what is trending in the moment. This is your ego leading and you won’t make any progress. Enjoy life, go easy on yourself, slow progress is still progress, choose expansion and choose joy.
Happy wandering x
